This study aims to determine whether the use of English song can
improve students' understanding of tenses. This research is quantitative with a pre
experimental one-group pretest and posttest design. Data collection in this study
was conducted using test instruments: a pretest and posttest administered to
determine students' initial abilities before receiving the treatment, and a posttest
administered after receiving the treatment to determine their ability to understand
the material. The tests were in the form of multiple-choice. The tests were
administered to 35 respondents, students of SMA Negeri 5 Palopo. The analysis
by using paired sample T test revealed The sig value (2 tailed) is 0.000 < 0.05, so
Null Hypothesis (H0) was rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. So it can be concluded that there was a difference in the average results
of the pretest and posttest, which means that there was an influence of using
English songs to improve the tenses understanding of tenth grade students at SMA
Negeri 5 Palopo. This information would guide future research and potentially
improve conditions for students.
