Vocabulary is a set of lexemes that includes single words,compound word and idioms.Improving vocabulary with used good method “Word Mapping”.Word mapping is a method for representing knowledge in graphs.The research question answered in this research is: To know whether or not improve vocabulary of the eight grade students of MTS Negeri Palopo by using word mapping. The population of this research 90 students,but the researcher only took 20 students of VIII D at MTS Negeri Palopo to be sampled. The instrument of this research used Vocabulary test. The research method was experimental research that consist of pretest,treatment and posttest. The mean score of students in the pre-test was lower than post-test. Based on the classification there is differently significance score pre-test and post-test of the students in ability by applied word mapping method.The researcher found that the result of sig.(2-tailed) is 0,951 while the correlation variable (r) is 0,015 it means ρ value more less than the α level from that,the researcher is rejected the null hypothesis (H0). Beside that,the probability is (sig < α) = (0,951 < 0,5),which shows that the significance (ρ value) smaller than the significant level (α = 0,5) from that,the alternative null ( H1) is accepted. It means the researcher can improve students’ vocabulary of eight grade at MTS Negeri Palopo with using word mapping.
