Fischa Marchilia Samuel. 2023. The Use of Riddle Technique to Improve Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at the Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 2 Bua Ponrang (Supervised by Hafirah Patang and Paldy).
This research aims at determining the effectiveness of riddle technique in teaching students’ vocabulary at SMP Negeri 2 Bua Ponrang. The population of this research is the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Bua Ponrang in South Sulawesi. The total number of sample is 29 students. The researcher applied cluster random sampling. The method used in this research is pre-experimental design. The research instrument was vocabulary test. The result of the research shows there are significant difference between students score in pre-test and post- test. This can be also seen by comparing by the results of the t-test where the t- value is smaller than the significant level α (0.000 < 0.05). It indicates that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. Based on the result of the study, the researcher concluded that the use of riddle technique is effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery. The mean score of students’ pre-test 52.10 which is classified as poor and it is lower than the mean score of students’ post-test 87.10 which is classified as good.
