Nurul Hikmah. 2025. The Effectiveness of Using Missing Lyric English Song to Improve Students‟ Listening Skill at Seventh Grade of SMPN 1 Bua (supervised by Sri Damayanti and Andi Mangnguntungi Sudirman).
This research aims to determine the improvement in listening skills of class VII students at SMPN 1 Bua through the use of Missing Song Lyrics. Researchers used quantitative methods with a pre-experimental design. This research was conducted at SMPN 1 Bua. The population of this study consisted of class VII students at SMPN 1 Bua. The population was 256 students, while the sample was 26 students. This research applies random sampling techniques to determine the sample. In data collection, pre-test, treatment and post-test were used. Based on data analysis using the Wilcoxon test, negative ranking values were obtained in the pre-test and post-test, showing that the N, mean rank and sum of rank values were 0. This means that there was no decrease (reduction) from pre-test to post- test. Apart from that, the positive ranking between the pre-test and post-test showed that there were 26 students who experienced improvement. Mean Rank is 13.50, while Sum of Rank is 351.00. The Ties value is 0, meaning there is no similarity between the pre-test and post-test. Apart from that, it can also be seen by comparing the results of statistical tests where the value (is greater than (p) (0.05 > 0.000), it can be concluded that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. It can be concluded that the use of Missing Song Lyrics in seventh grade is effective to improving students‟ listening skills.
