The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the reading aloud strategy in improving reading ability of tenth grade students at SMAN 5 Palopo, especially in understanding narrative texts. This pre-experimental study used a quantitative method with a sample of 20 students from one class selected through simple random sampling. The results show that students' reading ability increased significantly after being treated with the reading aloud strategy. The results of the paired sample t-test shows a significance value (sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05, with the average score of students increasing from 71.50 in the pre- test to 79.00 in the post-test. These results indicate that the reading aloud strategy is effective in improving students' reading ability. This strategy improves their fluency, pronunciation, text comprehension, and confidence in reading.
