Abstract

Sulastri. 2021. The Analysis of Teacher Strategies in Teaching English Vocabulary at the Eighth Grade School of SMPN 8 Palopo (mentored by Rizal A.M. Sjachrun and Edi Wahyono)
The writer aims to identify the strategies teachers use in teaching English comprehension to eighth grade students at SMPN 8 Palopo. The method used in this research is a mixed method. Participants for this study were selected using purposive sampling. Data was collected by conducting direct interviews with the subjects, classroom observations, documentation, and questionnaires to support this research. Based on the findings, the learning strategies implemented include various approaches that focus on improving students' understanding, motivation and engagement. Teachers' teaching experience plays an important role in the effectiveness of learning strategies, where experienced teachers are able to integrate interesting learning methods such as the use of visual media, interactive learning, and contextual. Strategies such as translation, dictionary use, pictures and collaboration help students understand and use learning materials and encourage social interaction. Adjusting teaching methods based on students' abilities through grouping and differentiated tasks is also an effective strategy to improve learning outcomes and student motivation. The combination of these strategies creates a learning environment that is active, engaging and responsive to students' needs, ultimately improving their overall command of English.
