This research aims to determine the effect of using YouTube as a teaching medium to optimize and improve students’ listening comprehension at the second grade of SMA Frater Palopo. The researcher applied a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design. The population of this study was all eleventh-grade students of SMA Frater Palopo in the 2025/2026 academic year, while the sample consisted of 25 students selected through simple random sampling. The instrument used was a listening comprehension test in the form of multiple-choice questions, given twice as a pre-test and post-test. the treatment was conducted in four meetings using English animated videos from the YouTube channel The Fable Cottage. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 2023. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test showed that the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.000, which is smaller than 0.05, indicating that there was a significant difference between students’ pre-test and post-test scores. The mean score increased from 43.20 in the pre-test to 85.84 in the post-test, showing an improvement in students’ listening comprehension after the treatment. it can be concluded that the use of YouTube as a teaching medium effectively optimizes and enhances students’ listening comprehension. The visual and audio features provided by YouTube videos make learning more engaging and help students understand the meaning, context, and storyline of English materials better.
