Yustika. 2021 The Correlation between Students’ Motivation In Learning English and Speaking Performance at 3rd Grade Students of SMAN 2 Palopo (supervised by Musliadi and Andi Mangnguntungi Sudirman)

This research aims to find out the correlation between students’ motivation in learning English and speaking performance in SMAN 2 Palopo. This research
used method with descriptive quantitative model. The population of this research
was class XII of SMAN 2 Palopo and the sample was class XII Ipa 1 consisted of
30 students. There were 2 instruments to collect the data namely questionnaire and
speaking test. The result of questionnaire was students 37% students got
moderate, 40% students got high, and 23% students got very high motivation
.Whereas mostly of students got high motivation. From speaking test the result
were students got various score, 10% students got very poor, 37% students got
poor, 33% students got fairly good, 10% got good, and 10% got very good score.
The result of correlation analysis shows that there is no significant correlation
between students’ motivation in learning English and speaking performance in
SMAN 2 Palopo. It can be seen from p-value (0.613) higher than α (0.05).
Therefore H0 is accepted and H1 is rejected. It means that there is no significant
correlation between students’ motivation in learning English and speaking
performance. rvalue (0.096) shows that the level of correlation is very low.
