This research aims to find out the difficulties faced by teachers in teaching listening. The subjects in this research were 1 male English teacher and 1 female
English teacher at SMA Negeri 9 Luwu. This research method is a qualitative descriptive method. The researcher used purposive sampling in determining the
research sample. The results of the research from male English teachers, the
difficulties faced in teaching listening are poor learning media, the absence of a
language laboratory, and the absence of electrical connections in some classes.
While for female English teachers, the difficulties faced in teaching listening are
the students' lack of vocabulary, lack of students' interest in learning listening, and
also experiencing the same difficulties as male English teachers, namely the
absence of a language laboratory and the absence of a language laboratory. And
the absence of electrical connections in some classes makes it difficult to use
electronic learning media. All the difficulties described above can be overcome.
However, it depends on the teacher and the school itself. To overcome some of
these difficulties, such as regarding media or school facilities, teachers must work
together with the school to overcome the problems that occur. Meanwhile, to
overcome the difficulties of the lack of students' vocabulary and students' lack of
interest in learning listening, the teacher can make students first aware of the
importance of listening skills and motivate them in learning listening. Then the
teacher must adapt the teaching method creatively and flexibly. In teaching
listening, teachers can use visual aids to attract students to learn, such as playing
their favorite song or songs that are trending at the time, using speakers.
