This research aims at finding out the correlation between students’ learning strategies in speaking and the speaking performance at SMAN 2 Palopo. This
research applied descriptive quantitative design. The population of this research is
440 the eleventh grade students in SMAN 2 Palopo. The researcher used cluster
sampling technique in determining 30 students as the sample of the research.
Based on the result of data analysis, the researcher concludes that there is
correlation between students’ learning strategies in speaking and the speaking
performance at the twelfth grade of SMAN 2 Palopo. It is supported by the result
of calculating correlation that is the pearson correlation is 0.221 which is higher
than 0.05 (0.221 > 0.05). Therefore H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Then it can
be concluded that there is a positive and significance correlation between
students’ learning strategies in speaking and the speaking performance at the
twelfth grade of SMAN 2 Palopo. The level of correlation is in the category of
low because 0.221 is in the range 0.200-0.400.
