The purpose of this research was to determine whether the used of Picture Stories Media was effective in improving students' reading ability at SMPN 14
Palopo. The method used is a quantitative method. Researchers apply pre
experimental. Consisting of pretest, treatment, and posttest to 20 respondents.
Data were analyzed using statistical analysis. The subject of this research was
students of class VIII C SMPN 14 Palopo. The results of posttest is higer than
pretest, the mean score of posttest is 81.30 and the mean score of 48.85. It is
proved by the score of sig.2 tailed. 000 is < α 0.05). It means that the null
hypothesis is rejected. It can be conclude that the use of picture stories media is
effective in improving students’ reading ability at the eight grade student of
SMPN 14 Palopo.
