Sahara. 2021. The Effectiveness of Using Crossword Puzzle in Teaching Vocabulary at Seventh Grade of SMP Negeri 3 Bajo. (Supervised by Sri Damayanti and Fibri Indira Lisanty AD).

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of crossword puzzle in teaching
vocabulary at seventh grade of SMP Negeri 3 Bajo. The method that use in this
research is pre-experimental design. The population of this reserach is the seventh
grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Bajo, and the total sample are 20 students. The
researcher use cluster random sampling technique in determining the sample. The
instrument of this research is vocabulary test. The results of this research indicated
that after using the Crossword Puzzle in teaching vocabulary at seventh grade of
SMP Negeri 3 Bajo increases. This shows that there are significant differences
between student scores in pre-test and post-test. The mean score of the students’
pre-test is 54.50 and 82.50 in the post-test. Furthermore, the result of computation
of t-test show P-value < α (0.00<0.05) with degree of freedom N-1 (20-1=19). It
means that, null hypothesis (H0) rejected and alternative hypothesis (H1) accepted.
So, there is significant difference between the result of pre-test and post-test after
the treatment. Therefore, the researcher concludes that crossword puzzle is
effective in teaching vocabulary at seventh grade of SMP Negeri 3 Bajo.
