In this study, the researcher used the teaching strategy of vacca (1999) to analyze the teacher's strategy in teaching reading comprehension at SMP Negeri 1
Walenrang. The research uses a case study that aims to describe the
implementation of teacher strategies in the learning process of reading
comprehension at SMP Negeri 1 Walenrang. To conduct this study using
interview guidelines and observation checklists. This research was conducted on
English teachers and students of class VII SMP Negeri 1 Walenrang.
The results showed that the teacher used three teaching strategies, namely
scaffolding strategy, thinking hard strategy and QAR strategy (question and
answer relationship). First, the teacher used scaffolding strategy to help students
who have difficulty understanding the material. Second, the teacher uses the
QARs strategy to build students' knowledge, determine students' understanding of
the material, and make students more active. Finally, the teacher uses the strategy
of thinking aloud to help students understand the text easily. Based on the
findings, the researcher suggests teachers to use other, more interesting alternative
strategies to improve students' abilities.
