This study aims to determine the improvement of vocabulary mastery of seventh grade students of SMPN 4 Satap Malangke through the use of total physical response method using picture cards. The researcher used quantitative method with pre-experiment design. This study used vocabulary test as the research instrument in the form of word translation. This research was conducted at SMPN 4 Satap Malangke. The population of this study consisted of seventh grade students of SMPN 4 Satap Malangke. The total population was 92 students, while the sample consisted of 15 students. This study used random sampling technique to determine the sample. In collecting data, pre-test, treatment, and post-test were used. However, the data were analyzed using paired sample t-test. The researcher found that there was a significant difference between the students' mean scores in the pre-test and post-test. The mean score of students in the pre- test was 38.33 while the mean score of students in the post-test was 43.33. In addition, based on the results of the paired sample t-test, it shows that sig (2- tailed) ˂ α (0.000 ˂ 0.05) which means that there is a significant difference between the learning outcomes in the pre-test and post-test data. Therefore, H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. It can be concluded that the learning concept using the total physical response method applied in grade seven has an effective impact in improving students' vocabulary acquisition.
