Gustina. 2021. Learning Strategy Applied by Male and Female Students in Gaining Vocabulary Mastery at SMP Negeri 7 Palopo (supervised by Hafirah Patang and Hermini)

This research aims to determine the learning strategies applied by male and female. And the significant difference in the preference of vocabulary learning strategies between male and female students at SMP Negeri 7 Palopo.
Thus research uses a quantitative descriptive method. The population in this
research were students of grade VIII totaling 40 students, namely 20 male students
and 20 female students. The instrument in this research is a questionnaire. To
analyze the data, the researcher uses percentage formula, and the results of this
research showes that the response of 20 questions with 20 female respondents and
20 male respondents, the result is that the learning strategies chosen by the male
students are determination strategies, social strategies and metacognitive
strategies.Based on Schmitt adopts Oxford’s (2011) theory. Based on independent
samples test, it shows that the probability value (sig) is 0.977, it is more than 0.05.
It means that there is no significant difference between male and female strategies
in learning vocabulary.
