The purpose of this study was to develop understanding of students. The learning process in developing students’ understanding of using paired story telling in eleventh grade of SMA YPN Noling high school. Researcher use pre
experimental as research method.Sample taking techniques randomly. Twenty
five taken samples based on data analysis. The researcher concluded that the story
telling can develop the ability to read students in YPN Noling high school. This is
evidenced by the significant different between the average value of the pretest and
posttest. In the pretest of the average value of students ( 54,88 ) and on the
posttest average value of students ( 85,64 ). Besides that, it can also be seen by
calculating the results of sig.2. tailed and α,where sig.2 tailed is lower than α,
where sig.2 tailed lower than α (0,00<0,05). Therefore the students’ mean score
in pre-test and post-test its mean that there is significance increase between the
pre-test and post-tes. This research is significant in terms of the difference
between the pretest and posttest
