The purpose of this research was to determine whether the use of guessing games was effective in improving students' ability in writing descriptive texts at
SMPN 2 Bua Ponrang. The method used is a quantitative method. Researchers
apply pre-experimental. Consisting of pretest, treatment, and posttest to 25
respondents. Data were analyzed using statistical analysis. The subject of this
research were students of class VIII A SMPN 2 Bua Ponrang.The results of this
research indicate thatthe p-value of posttest is lower than α (0.00 ˂ 0.05). The t
test value of posttest is remarked significant difference. It indicates that the
alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. It
is proved that the use of guessing games is effective in improving students‟ ability
in writing descriptive text at the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Bua
Ponrang.
