Taufik. 2020. The Implementation of Scientific Approach in Speaking Learning Activities at Ninth Grade of SMP Negeri 3 Palopo (Supervised by Musliadi and Rahmawati Upa’).

The aims of this research are to figure out (1) How the implementation of scientific approach in Speaking Learning Activities (2) The advantages and
disadvantages of scientific approach in speaking learning activities. This research
was conducted at SMPN 3 Palopo. The method used is the application of the
descriptive qualitative. In collecting data, the researcher did interview, observation,
and documentation. The researcher used an interview sheet (semi-structured
Interview). Based on observation and interview, the results of this research indicated
the teacher at SMPN 3 Palopo implemented five steps of scientific approach in
teaching speaking. Five steps are observing, questioning, experimenting, associating,
and communicating. The advantages are learning process are more structural, give
opportunities to students to think creatively/critically, improve, try to find new
information in learning, and to assess not only on students’ competence as well as to
assess on students’ attitude. The disadvantages are students have the different
motivation that effect to other students, less of accustomed of students to give
questions or reply for problems that shows speaking class activity is not quite active,
and less of students’ confidence to speak in English.
