The objective of this research aims to find out whether there is a significant difference using individual approach in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text at the Seventh Grade of SMPN 5 Baebunta. The researcher applied an individual approach and using WhatsApp application. The
method of this research is pre experimental method. Then the researcher
analyzed the data by using SPSS. The data were taken by using test. The result of
this research showed that applied an individual approach in teaching reading
comprehension can improve students' reading skills. It is proven by the difference
between students’ mean scores in the pre-test and post-test, in the pre-test students
the mean score is 39,50 which is classified as very poor and in the post-test is
79,50 which is classified good or fairly good. The results of data analysis shows
the t-value of the significance is 0.000 and the result of the statistical analysis for
the level of significance (α) = 0, 05, α = 0, 05 > significance (0,000). It can be
concluded H0 is rejected, and H1 is accepted. It means there is significance
improvement between the result of pre-test and post-test of students’ reading
comprehension after treatment with applied an individual approach. The
researcher concludes that applied an individual approach in teaching reading
comprehension can improve students’ ability in reading comprehension.
