This study aims to determine the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery by using English songs of students XIb SMAN 8 LUWU. This study used
a pre experimental method using test sheet instruments and used two groups, pre
test and post-test groups. The population in this study was students of class XIb
SMAN 8 LUWU total 225 students. In determining the sample, the researcher
used a cluster sampling technique and in this study, there were 21 samples. The
research instrument is a test sheet that aims to measure students’ vocabulary. The
test was given through pre-test and post-test. The data of this study was analyzed
using the SPSS version 20 program. The results of the data indicated that there
was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. The mean scores of
the pre-test (35,71) while the mean scores of post-test (78,71) with the standard
deviation of the pre-test (18,235) and the standard deviation of post-test (7,356).
While t-test = 0.000, (α) = 0.05. It means there is a significant difference between
pre-test and post-test of students’ vocabulary mastery before and after the
researcher gave the treatment. It is shown that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected,
while the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded
that using English songs can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery.
