Yarti Hastuti. 2022. The Students’ Reading Comprehension at the Second Years of MTS Bonelemo (supervised by Hafirah Patang and Reski Yusrini Islamiah Yunus)

The objectives of the research is to find out the ability of students’ reading
comprehension at the second years of MTS Bonelemo and the students’ problems
in reading comprehension at the second years of MTS Bonelemo. The researcher
used random sampling technique to take the samples and total number of the
sample were 20 students. The instrument of the research were reading
comprehension test and interview. The result of the research reveals that there the
students have poor and very poor score in reading comprehension. The data
reveals that there were 3 (15%) students got the score which is classified as the
average score, 4 (20%) students who got fair score, 6 (30%) students who got
poor score and 7 (35%) students got very poor and the mean score is 52.50
categorized into poor. The researcher did not find any students who got excellent,
very good and good score. Furthermore, there are some problems faced by the
students in reading comprehension. They are (1) difficult in finding main idea of
the text, (2) lack of vocabulary, (3) lack of knowledge about the strategies of
reading comprehension.
