Sukriah. 2022. English Teacher Strategies Analysis in Teaching Listening Ability of the Eleventh Grade Students at SMA Negeri 6 Luwu Utara (supervised by Reski Yusrini Islamiah Yunus and Rizal A.M. Sjachrun)

The aim of the research was to determine the strategy used by teachers in
influencing the listening ability of eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 6 Luwu
Utara. The total population were three English teachers. The sample of this
research was focused on the English teacher who teach in the eleventh grade of
SMA Negeri 6 Luwu Utara, which consists of one teacher. This research applied
descriptive qualitative method. The instrument was interview and observation
cheklist. The findings of this research show that there are five strategies used by
English teachers in teaching listening ability in the eleventh grade, namely:
memory strategy, cognitive strategy, metacognitive strategy and socio-affective
strategy. In addition, the underlying factor in using such strategies in teaching
listening ability is based on the students' English skills, so that the English teacher
will know the right strategy that must be used to teach students. By applying
multiple strategies, students will feel very helpful and can avoid the difficulties
they face when they listening. This research suggests that the effectiveness of
teachers in teaching is very necessary, basically a teacher must be a good
communicator, must teach students effectively to deliver material that helps
students learn more effectively.
