Abstract

Novita Pebriyanti Arrung. 2024. The Effectiveness of Using Story Grammar Strategy on Students’ Reading Achievement at Eighth Grade of SMPN 4 Palopo (supervised by Hafirah Patang and Edi Wahyono).
This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using story grammar strategy on students’ reading text achievement in eighth grade of SMPN 4 Palopo. The population in this study was the students of eighth grade of SMPN 4 Palopo with the total population was 475 students. This study used simple random sampling with 26 students of class VIII-A as a technique to obtain the sample. The researcher used a reading test as an instrument. The researcher used a quantitative method with a pre-experiment research design. The data was collected by conducting a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. It can be seen from the students' mean scores in the pre- test and post-test. The mean score of students in the pre-test was 64.81 which was lower than the mean score of students in the post-test which was 83.27. In addition, the sig (2-tailed) value ˂ α (0.000 ˂ 0.05) means that there is a significant difference between the learning outcomes in the pre-test and post-test data. Therefore, H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. It can be concluded that the use of story grammar strategy can improve the students’ reading achievement at the Eighth of SMPN 4 Palopo.
