This research aims to determine whether the use of the silent way method
can improve students' vocabulary mastery. This type of research is quantitative
and descriptive with a pre-experimental design of one group pretest and posttest.
The data for this study were gathered using test instruments, specifically the
pretest and posttest.is given to determine the students' initial ability before being
given treatment, and a posttest is given after students receive treatment to
determine their ability to understand the material given. The test is given in the
form of multiple-choice questions and essays. The test was given to 25
respondents who were students from SMP Datok Sulaiman Palopo. The data
analysis technique was carried out using the normality test, the homogeneity test,
and the Wilcoxon test. The results obtained are sig. 2 tailed, is 0.000 <0.05, which
means that there is a significant difference between the average pretest score and
the students' average posttest score. Because the value of 0.000 <0.05, it can be
concluded that the hypothesis is accepted. This means that there are differences in
student learning outcomes using the silent way method for pretest and posttest. So
it can be concluded that there is an influence on the use of the silent way method.
