This research conducted at SMPN 4 Palopo. The objective of the research is to find out the teacher's strategies in improving students' comprehension of vocabulary learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The method of this research is
descriptive qualitative method. Where in collecting the data, the researcher
applied guided-interview which consist of 10 questions. Data has been analyzed
qualitatively and the results of this research indicate that the teaching and learning
process is carried out via online and in improving students' comprehension of
vocabulary learning during the Covid-19 pandemic the teacher teaching by using
video and picture that teacher sent through WhatsApp group as the only one
online platform in delivering the material to the students. So the main media is
video and picture where teacher shared the both video and picture via WhatsApp
group. The video was not in a form of a link that can be accessed when we are
online but recording video where the material indeed from a screenshot of the
video that re-recorded and merged it with the one on YouTube, then the teacher
gave additional information in the form of sound (dubbing) and become a full
video. Where the picture presented with information in the form of writing
directly below. So that students don't have to think about what English the object
is. In evaluating the students, the teacher did it by using the worksheet and
delivering question in WhatsApp group. After applying the strategies and
evaluating the students‟ vocabulary comprehension, it was confirmed that the
level of students‟ comprehension of vocabulary was low. It is can be shown by
the lack of students‟ participation and their activeness in learning. Therefore, the
researcher concludes that in improving students‟ comprehension of vocabulary
learning during covid-19 pandemic the teacher applied two main strategies, they
are showing video and showing picture.
