Ramal. 2022. The Students’ Ability in Mastering Vocabulary at Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Bua Ponrang(supervised by Musliadi dan Reski Yusrini)

The main objective of the research isto examine the students’ ability in mastering vocabulary at eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Bua Ponrang. The
researcher applied cluster random sampling technique in determining the sample
and the total number of the sample were 28 students. The instrument of the
research was vocabulary test.The result of the research shows thatthere is 1 (3%)
students got the score which classified the very good score, 2 (7%) students who
got good score. In addition, there are 8 (29%) students who got average score.
Furthermore, there are 8 (29%) students got fair score and 9 (32%) students who
got poor score. The researcher did not find any students who got excellentand
poor score. Meanwhile, the means score of the vocabulary test is 62. This is an
indication that the students have low ability in vocabulary mastery and the
students need a help from the teachers to guide them learning vocabulary.
