The objective of this research is to find out the teacher’s strategy used in
teaching reading at virtual learning at the second grade of UPT SMP Negeri 1
Baebunta. The subject of this research was the second grade teacher in UPT SMP
Negeri 1 Baebunta. The researcher applied total sampling. Then the researcher
analyzed the data used descriptive qualitative as the design of this research. The
data collection technique used in this research was interview. The interview used
to know the teacher’s strategy in teaching reading at virtual learning. From the
interview data, the researcher found that the teacher only used scanning strategy in
teaching reading to the students. The teacher considered that this scanning
strategy has a positive influence on students' reading achievement when learning
online. This scanning strategy is a fast reading strategy so that students find it
easier to find information or understand the contents of the reading.
