This research extended into much detail about the Interest in English Speaking During Covid-19 Pandemic of the Eighth Grade at MTs Al-Muhdariyah Tokke. The purpose of this research was to know the causes of students’ lack of
interest in learning English speaking during the COVID-19 pandemic. The
participants in this research were students of eighth grade of the Mts Al
Muhdariyah Tokke. This research used a qualitative method, with data obtained
through an interview. The result of this research shows that all students of MTs
Al-Muhdariyah Tokke were not interested in learning to speak English during the
Covid-19 pandemic because of several reasons. These reasons include the
improper internet connection in the area, teacher’s approach and method that is
not suitable, wrong use of learning media and the situation of online learning and
distraction at home. It is easier for students to understand during face-to-face
learning and the facility factor also has an effect. These factors affect student’s
lack of interest and motivation in learning speaking. Thus, the students could not
get full understanding regarding the material and the learning objective could not
be achieved.
