Resti Lolak Kamonto. 2024. The Use of Audio Lingual Method in Teaching Speaking at Tenth Grade Students’ of Sman 1 Palopo (supervised by Sri Damayanti and Reski Yusrini Islamiah Yunus)
This research is based on the findings of the researcher that some students still find it difficult to express their opinions in english directly in front of the class. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of the lingual audio method in teaching speaking at tenth grade of students.The population of this study consisted of all students in the Tenth grade of SMAN 1 Palopo. The study was conducted in 11 classes, with a total of 390 students. Purposive sampling was employed as the sampling technique, with 25 students from class X IPS 1 selected for participation. The researcher utilized a speaking test instrument with a quantitative method and a pre-experiment design. Data collection was conducted through the administration of a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The results of this study indicate that the Audio Lingual can enhance students' speaking abilities. This is evidenced by the students' average scores in the pre-test and post-test. The average score of students in the pre- test was 52.88, which was lower than the average score of students in the post-test, which was 70.28. Furthermore, the significance level (2-tailed) value is less than the alpha value (0.000 < 0.05), indicating a notable distinction between the learning outcomes in the pre-test and post-test data. Consequently, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. It can be inferred that the Audio Lingual Method is efficacious in enhancing the speaking proficiency of students in class X IPS 1 SMAN 1 PALOPO.
