Irvan Zainuddin. 2022. An Analysis Of Students’ Responses to The Use of YouTube In Developing Speaking Competence at The Sixth Semester of Cokroaminoto Palopo University (supervised by Hafirah Patang and Tsamratul’Aeni).

The objectives of this research are to figure out 1) to investigate how students in Cokroaminoto Palopo University's Sixth Semester utilize YouTube as a
media platform to learn speaking. 2) to analyze how YouTube might help students
develop their speaking competence. This research was conducted at Cokroaminoto
Palopo University. The method used is the application of the descriptive qualitative
method, which is a qualitative method with a survey through an online Likert scale
questionnaire to 24 respondents and five of them were interviewed. Data has been
analyzed using description qualitatively. The questionnaire was analyzed based on
the percentage of each answer. To calculate questionnaire data into percentages, the
researcher used the formula where the frequency is multiplied to 100% then divided
to the number of the total respondents. The results of this research indicate that
students at Cokroaminoto Palopo University have high instrumental in learning
English. Based on the survey through the questionnaire, students’ answers of agree
and strongly agree which dominated the questionnaire, while the students’ answer
of disagree and strongly disagree are not significantly occurred. The overall result
the research state that students the respondents had positively high to use YouTube
as a platform to develop their speaking compentence. In other words, most students
at sixth semester in Cokroaminoto Palopo University Most of them used YouTube
as a tool or learning material for speaking.
