The aims of this study is to find out the ability of students’ in reading
comprehension. The sample of study is the eighth grade students’ of SMPN 2
Palopo with total sample is 20. The method appliced was quantitave method, the
researcher found out that he average score was 34.5 or classified as very poor. It is
concluded that the students’ have difficulties in understanding reading
comprehension. Reading comprehension is not just understanding what you read,
it is an active thought process. It is an active thought process that relies not only
on comprehension but also on the student's experience and understanding of prior
knowledge, including lexical comprehension, recognition of word-concept
relationships, and semantic appraisal and evaluation
