Abstract

Gifar Sukardi. 2024. Students’ Listening Ability at English Education Study Program of University Cokroaminoto Palopo. (supervised by Prof. Dr. Rusdiana Junaid, M. Hum., M.A and Dr. Hafira Patang, SS, M. Hum).
This study aims to determine to know Students’ Listening Ability at English Education Study Program of University Cokroaminoto Palopo. A listening test was conducted on 27 eighth-semester students to evaluate their comprehension skills. The data collected was analyzed using a quantitative descriptive approach. The findings revealed that most students are at a "Basic" level of listening proficiency, with 85.18% scoring in the "Basic" range, 14.81% in the "Intermediate" range, and none reaching the "Advanced" level. These results suggest that students face challenges in listening ability, potentially due to limited exposure to authentic English materials and difficulties in understanding varied accents. The study concludes that targeted interventions, including varied listening materials and interactive teaching methods, are essential to improve students’ listening abilities.
