The main objective of the research is to examine the effectiveness of use of video
as a media in increasing the students vocabulary at SMPN 6 Palopo. The
researcher used cluster random sampling technique to take the samples and total
number of the sample were 27 students. The instrument of the research was
vocabulary test. The result of the research reveals that there is a significant
different between the students‟ vocabulary mastery before and after using video as
a media. In the pretest, there are 7 or 26% students get very poor, 8 or 30%
students get poor, 10 or 37% students get fair and also 2 or 7% students get
average classification. While in the posttest, there are still 2 or 7% students get
poor score, 4 or 15% students get fair score, 11 or 41% students who get average
classification, and 10 or 30% get good score. The mean score of the pretest 54 and
posttest is 73. The standard deviation of the pretest is 9.133 and posttest is 8.165.
While P- Value = 0,003, (α)= 0,05. The t-test is smaller than (α). It means that
there is a significant different between the students‟ vocabulary mastery before
