This research discusses the difficulties which is influence student’s speaking in
English at SMA Negeri 7 Luwu Timur. The purpose of this study is expected to
explain the difficulties that found when students speaking in English and provide
many benefits for Teachers, Students, and Researchers so that in the future this
research can help in terms of knowledge and have a much greater impact for the
world of education. This type of research uses a qualitative descriptive method.
The subjects of this research are students. The research location is SMA Negeri 7
Luwu Tiimur. The sample in this study used purposive sampling. The instrument
of this research gave 5 students change to introduce themselves and and gave
information where did they go on last holiday. Then interview the 5 students and
gave 6 questions. The data collection procedure in this study used speaking test,
interview and documentation. Data analysis techniques in this study used data
reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The process of learning English,
especially speaking skill is not an easy and simple thing because English is a
foreign language and many students are not used to using English in daily
conversation. The results of this research is to know about what are difficulties
that faced by students when speaking English. There are two problems that makes
them difficult when speaking English such as linguistics problems such as poor in
grammar, lack of vocabulary and error pronounciation. And the second problem is
psychological prblems such as shyness, anxiety, lack of confident, nothing to say
and fear of mistake. Almost students in class XI IPA Pi-1 not lack of motivation
to learn English.
