This study discusses the strategies used by English teachers in teaching reading to students at SMA Negeri 6 Palopo. This study explained the strategies used by English teachers in teaching reading to students at SMA Negeri 6 Palopo
and to provide many benefits for teachers, students, and researchers so that in the
future this research can help in terms of knowledge and provide a much greater
impact for education. The research used qualitative descriptive method. The
populationof the research was three English teachers at SMA Negeri 6 Palopo.
Through total sampling technique, chose 3 teachers become sampel of search. The
research instrument was interview wich consist of six questions. The data
collected through semi structured interview. The data analysis procedures were
data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this
study are that English teachers in teaching students to read at SMA Negeri 6
Palopo use different strategies. The are expository strategies, scaffolding
strategies, and CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) strategies. The three
strategies used by teachers are quite effective strategy and it has advantages and
disadvantages for students.
