The purpose of this research is to find out whether podcast is effective in improving students‟ listening skill or not. This research methodology was Pre
Experimental research. The population of this research is the seventh semester
students of English Education study program at Cokroaminoto Palopo University
that consisted of 53 students. The sample was 30 students selected using a random
sampling technique. The techniques of collecting data used test, there were two
tests in this research pre-test and post-test. The test consisted of 20 multiple
choice questions. The data were analyzed using T-test formulas by comparing pre
test and post-test. At the end of this study, the result of analysis showed that there
was improvement on students‟ listening skill. It showed from the result of pre-test,
the average score was 55 with the highest score was 80, and the lowest score was
20. And from the result of the post-test, the average score was 72.83 with the
highest score was 100, and the lowest score was 40. There is a difference Mpre-test
(55) <Mpost-test (72.83). Also from the result of paired samples test (2-tiled) was
0.00, less than 0.05 (0.00 <0.05). The statistical result show showed that the null
hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It
shows that the using of English podcasts is effective to improving students‟
listening skills and the data above can be concluded that the students‟ listening
skill have been improved by using English podcasts as learning media.
