The objective of the research is to find out the effectiveness of Listen-Read-Discuss
(LRD) Strategy to improve the student’s reading. The population of this research is
the eight grade students of SMPN Satap Raja in academic year 2021/2022. The
researcher uses total number of sample was 30 samples. The method of this research
is pre-experimental method with pretest and posttest design. Then the researcher
analyzes the data by using Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) version
20. The researcher concludes that teaching reading through Listen-Read-Discuss
(LRD) Strategy to the eight grade students of SMPN Satap Raja is effective. The
result shows that mean score of the pretest is 30.50 and the posttest increase to be
57.50. The researcher also finds that the P-value is 0.00 and the α is 0.05, therefore
P< α (0.00< 0.05). It is proved that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and
alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Therefor Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD)
strategy is effective to improving students reading skill.
