Cesni Natu. 2023. The Use of Show and Tell Method in Teaching Vocabulary at
the Seventh Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Masamba (supervised by Rizal A.M.
Sjachrun and Opik Dwi Indah)
The main objective of the research is to find out the use of show and tell method in
improving students’ vocabulary at the Seventh Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1
Masamba. The researcher used cluster random sampling technique to take the
samples and total number of the sample were 20 students. The instrument of the
research was vocabulary test. The result of the research reveals that using the show
and tell method can improve the students’ vocabulary at the Seventh Grade Students
of SMP Negeri 1 Masamba. In the pretest, there are 6 students (30%) are
categorized as “fair”, 8 students (40%) categorized as “poor”, and 6 students (30%)
categorized in “very poor” level. In the posttest, there are 9 students (45%) are
categorized as “good”, 8 students (40%) categorized as “average”, and 3 students
(15%) categorized in “fair” level. The mean score of the pretest 51.35 and posttest
is 74.95 (51.35 < 75.15). The standard deviation of pretest is 15. 18 and posttest is
9. 19. While P- Value = 0.000, (α)= 0,05. It means that the t - test is smaller than
(α). It indicates that the using show and tell method is effective in improving
students’ vocabulary.
