This study aims to describe the teaching methods used by teachers in teaching reading and the application of teaching reading methods at MTsN Palopo. This research is a qualitative descriptive study that focuses on two research questions, namely, what are the teaching methods used by teachers in teaching reading at MTsN Palopo? and how is the application of teaching methods in class? This subject of the research will be the teachers of the seventh grade and eighth grade at MTsN Palopo. The number of the teacher consisted of four teachers of English but the researcher took two of them as the sample of the research. Collecting data in this study using interviews and observation checklists. Based on the results of the data collected described qualitatively. The results of this study found that there were four methods used by the teacher in teaching reading, namely the conventional method, direct instruction, question and answer, and discussion, and how they were applied varied greatly. This can be shown by the positive, enthusiastic, and active responses of students in the class during the learning process so that learning goes very well. Based on the data, the researcher concluded that English teacher at MTsN Palopo frequently employed four methods of learning, namely conventional, direct instruction, question-and answer, and discussion, while teaching reading.
