Abstract
Salima. 2024. Students’ Strategy in Learning Vocabulary at SMPN 1 Noling (Supervised by Paldy and Andi Mangnguntungi Sudirman).
Based on the results of interviews with six students, the most commonly used vocabulary learning strategies are direct strategies, especially memory strategies. Memory strategies used by students include memorizing through repetition, associating words with sounds or images, and using the keyword method. Students also use cognitive strategies such as note-taking and summarizing to help
them understand and remember new vocabulary. Compensation strategies, such as guessing from context and using synonyms, were used to fill knowledge gaps.
However, none of the students explicitly mentioned using metacognitive, affective, or social strategies to learn vocabulary. This suggests that students may
be less aware of these strategies or may not use them often in their vocabulary learning.
Keyword: Vocabulary, Strategy.
