Learning Model with Picture Media in Enriching Students’ Vocabulary at SMAN 6

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Talking Stick learning
model with picture media in enriching students’ vocabulary at SMAN 6 Palopo.
This research employed a quantitative method using a pre-experimental design with
a one-group pre-test and post-test approach. The sample consisted of 18 students
selected through simple random sampling. The research instrument was a
vocabulary test covering nouns, adjectives, verbs, synonyms, and antonyms. Data
were collected through a pre-test, treatment using the Talking Stick learning model
with picture media for four meetings, and a post-test. The data were analyzed using
descriptive statistics and a Paired Sample t-Test with the assistance of IBM SPSS
Statistics. The findings revealed that the students’ mean score increased from 28.50
in the pre-test to 74.22 in the post-test. Furthermore, the result of the Paired Sample
t-Test showed that the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) was 0.000, which was lower
than the significance level of 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, the alternative
hypothesis (H₁) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected. These
findings indicate that the Talking Stick learning model with picture media was
effective in enriching students’ vocabulary at SMAN 6 Palopo.
