Toward Their TOEFL Listening Achivement of English Department Students at
Cokroaminoto Palopo University (Supervised by Hafirah Patang and Musliadi).
This study aims to determine the correlation between vocabulary mastery
and TOEFL Listening scores among students in the English Language Education
Program at Cokroaminoto University in Palopo. This study employed a quantitative
correlational design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with the
following criteria: active students in the English Language Education Program,
students who had studied the TOEFL specifically the listening section, and students
willing to serve as respondents. There were 17 students participated in this study,
but the analysis results showed a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.669 with a
significance level of 0.003. Since the significance level is less than 0.05, this
indicates a positive and significant correlation between students’ vocabulary
mastery and their TOEFL Listening achievement. This correlation is in the strong
category. In addition, students with higher vocabulary mastery tend to achieve
higher TOEFL Listening scores.
