Assessment in Enhancing Students’ Accuracy of Simple Past Tense at SMAN 5

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using the Gimkit
platform as a learning assessment in enhancing students' accuracy of the Simple
Past Tense at SMAN 5 Palopo. The research method applied was a quantitative
approach with a pre-experimental design, specifically the one-group pretest
posttest design. The sample of this research consisted of 48 tenth-grade students (X
Nasional 1 and X Nasional 6) at SMAN 5 Palopo in the 2025/2026 academic year.
Data collection was carried out through grammar test instruments administered
before (pre-test) and after the treatment (post-test) to measure the enhancement in
students' ability to construct sentences using the Simple Past Tense. The collected
data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test because the data were
not normally distributed. The results of the study indicated a significant
enhancement in students' performance, where the mean score increased from 50.69
(fair category) in the pre-test to 83.96 (very good category) in the post-test.
Furthermore, the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test yielded an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed)
value of 0.000, which is lower than 0.05 (p < 0.05), leading to the acceptance of
the alternative hypothesis (H1) and the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0). Based
on these findings, it can be concluded that the use of the Gimkit platform as a
learning assessment is highly effective in enhancing students' accuracy of the
Simple Past Tense at SMAN 5 Palopo.
