Comprehension of Tenth Grade Students at SMAN 4 Palopo. (supervised by Andi

The objective of this research is to examine whether the use of Meta AI
WhatsApp is effective in enhancing students’ reading comprehension of narrative
texts at SMAN 4 Palopo. This research applied a mixed-methods approach with
utilizing a pre-experimental design in the quantitative phase to investigate whether
the use of Meta AI WhatsApp has a significant effect on students’ reading
development, focusing on orientation, complication, and resolution. The sample
was obtained using a purposive sampling technique, resulting in one class with 14
students in the group. The findings of this research indicate that the use of Meta AI
WhatsApp successfully enhanced students’ reading comprehension. This is shown
by the increase in students’ mean scores from 33.21 in the pre-test to 80.21 in the
post-test, with a mean Normalized Gain (N-Gain) score of 0.7034, which falls under
the highly effective criterion. The significance value from the paired sample test
was 0.000 < 0.05, which means that there was a significant difference between the
pre-test and post-test results after the treatment. Additionally, qualitative findings
from the open-ended questionnaire supported these results, indicating highly
positive student perceptions as the integration of Meta AI successfully lowered their
affective filters and provided a safe, private learning environment. Therefore, the
research hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected.
It can be concluded that Meta AI WhatsApp is an effective medium for enhancing
students’ reading comprehension of narrative text in the tenth grade of SMAN 4
Palopo.
