Tool on the English Vocabulary Mastery of Grade XI TKJ 4 Students at SMK

This study aimed to investigate the effect of using ChatGPT as an
interactive learning tool on the English vocabulary mastery of Grade XI TKJ 4
students at SMK Negeri 1 Palopo. This study employed a quantitative approach
using a preexperimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The
sample consisted of 25 students selected through simple random sampling. The
research instrument was a 20-item multiple-choice vocabulary test administered
before and after the treatment. The treatment was conducted in four meetings,
during which ChatGPT was integrated into vocabulary learning activities focusing
on personal money management, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.
The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired-samples
t-test through SPSS Statistics. The findings revealed that the students’ mean score
increased from 54.20 in the pre-test to 77.20 in the post-test. Furthermore, the
paired-samples t-test showed a significance value of 0.000, which was lower than
the significance level of 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀)
was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted, indicating that the
use of ChatGPT as an interactive learning tool had a significant positive effect on
the students’ English vocabulary mastery. It can be concluded that ChatGPT is an
effective interactive learning tool for improving English vocabulary mastery
because it provides interactive learning experiences, contextual vocabulary
practice, and immediate feedback that encourage active participation and enhance
vocabulary acquisition.
