The objective of this research was to determine whether using the Wattpad
application enhances students’ motivation and reading comprehension at the tenth
grade of SMAN 10 Luwu. This study employed a quasi-experimental pre-test and
post-test control group design. The population comprised all tenth-grade students
at SMAN 10 Luwu in the 2025/2026 academic year. Through purposive sampling,
two classes were chosen: X7 as the experimental group (30 students) taught via
Wattpad, and X3 as the control group (30 students) taught conventionally. Data
were collected via reading comprehension tests and motivation questionnaires,
then analyzed using SPSS descriptive statistics and non-parametric tests. Results
indicated significant reading improvement in the experimental class, with the
mean score rising from 55.33 to 74.67 (Wilcoxon test, � = 0.000 < 0.05).
Conversely, the control group increased slightly from 68.33 to 69.67 (� =
0.617 > 0.05). The questionnaire yielded a mean score of 53.67 out of 60.00,
demonstrating high post-treatment motivation. Although the Mann-Whitney U test
showed no significant difference between groups at post-test (� = 0.117 > 0.05),
internal progress confirms the treatment's efficacy. In conclusion, Wattpad
successfully enhances reading comprehension and motivation among tenth-grade
students at SMAN 10 Luwu.
