Assisted by a Mind-Mapping Application on Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at the
Tenth Grade of SMA Negeri 1 Palopo (Supervised by Musliadi and Sri Rahayu).
Students’ limited vocabulary mastery remains one of the major challenges in
learning English, affecting their ability to understand and use the language
effectively. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the
Vocabulary Network Strategy (VNS) assisted by a mind-mapping application on
students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Palopo. This
study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental one-group pre
test and post-test design. The participants were 30 tenth-grade students selected
through random sampling. Data were collected through a vocabulary mastery test
administered before and after four treatment sessions. The data were analyzed
using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, and the Wilcoxon
Signed-Rank Test. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’
vocabulary mastery after the implementation of the treatment. The mean score
increased from 58.77 in the pre-test to 74.30 in the post-test, with an average gain
of 15.53 points. Furthermore, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test yielded an Asymp.
Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant
difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. These findings indicate that
the Vocabulary Network Strategy assisted by a mind-mapping application
significantly improved students’ vocabulary mastery. The strategy enabled
students to build meaningful semantic connections among words, while the mind
mapping application facilitated vocabulary organization through visual
representation, resulting in better vocabulary retention, stronger word
associations, and more appropriate contextual use of vocabulary.
