This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using audio visual
media in improving English vocabulary of eleventh grade at SMAN 2 palopo.
Based on the problem of low vocabulary which impact students overall English
language ability, this study use a quantitative method with a pre-experimental
design involving a pre-test, treatment (learning audio visual media), and post-test.
The audio visual media used is a short English video relevant to the learning
material. The research sample consisted of 20 randomly selected eleventh grade
students. The research instrument is a multiple-choose vocabulary test given
before and after treatment, data were analyzed using SPSS version 27 to calculate
the average value, standard deviation, and t-test to determine significant
differences between the pre-test and post-test. The result showed a significant
increase in students vocabulary after being given learning using audio visual
media, as reflected in the average post-test score (82.50) which is then the average
pre-test score (55-50). The t-test result show a significant value (0.000) which is
smaller than 0.05. providing that the use of audio visual media is effective in
improving the vocabulary of class XI students of SMAN 2 palopo, thus audio
visual media can be used as an interesting and effective alternative in English
learning, especially in improving students vocabulary and increase students
learning motivation.
