English Vocabulary to young learners at Seventh Grade of SMP Cokroaminoto

This research aims to find out the effect of using Wordwall website in
improving students’ vocabulary. The researcher used a quantitative method with a
pre-experimental design which included a pre-test and post-test. The subject of the
research was 10 seventh grade students of SMP 1 Cokroaminoto. The instrument
used were a multiple-choice, word search puzzles, and crossword with a total of
30 questions to measure students’ vocabulary before and after the treatment. The
data was analyzed using a t-test with the help of the IBM SPSS program. The
results showed that there was a significant difference in the students’ means
scores before and after using the Wordwall website media. In the pre-test, the
means score was 63.70, while in the post-test, the means score increased to 84.80.
The t-test showed a significance value of 0.015, which was lower than 0.05,
indicating that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test
result. This findings indicate that using Wordwall website media is effective in
improving students’ vocabulary. Therefore, Wordwall website can be used as an
alternative media for teaching vocabulary in a more engaging and enjoyable way.
Based on the results after giving the treatments, it can be concluded that Wordwall
is effective in improving vocabulary at the seventh grade students at
Cokroaminoto Junior High School, Palopo.
