This research aimed to explore students‘ perceptions of the role of social media, particularly Instagram, as a source of motivation and ideas in English writing. The subjects of this research were 30 students of the English Education Study Program at Cokroaminoto University Palopo. This study applied a descriptive quantitative approach using questionnaires and interviews as the instruments for collecting data to identify students‘ responses toward the use of Instagram in writing activities. The findings of this research show that students had positive perceptions of Instagram as a medium that motivates them to write in English. Instagram encourages students to write more confidently and enthusiastically through inspiring content, captions, and interactions on the platform. In addition, Instagram was also perceived as a source of ideas where students used posts, images, and stories to find writing topics and develop their creativity. Therefore, it can be concluded that Instagram plays an important role in supporting students‘ motivation and generating ideas in English writing.
